Core 2 quad vs i3 gaming

Your HTPC should be cool and quiet, not a power house in your living room that you need to drown out with louder speakers. Any Core 2 duo for that matter should suffice just fine to play whatever you throw at it. It is a bit overkill but I want to future proof this build. I am also on a budget and want to get a substantially good CPU.

The Core 2 Quad provides better net performance because it is a quad core processor, whereas the i3 is a dual core processor with 2 threads per core.

Realistically for an HTPC both are overkills -- just go for whatever that suits your budget better. Remember that heat is an issue if you want something that runs efficiently and quietly in your living room. If you want to have a build that is future proof I wouldn't build one on a dead end socket.

The core 2 on the was and still is a great processor but from what I've been reading I doubt Intel will continue making processors to fit motherboards. I think if you can make a build that fits your budget with a i3 you'll be happy with it. The package got bigger and measures 35 x 24 mm compared to 25 x 24 mm for the N e. Thanks to the new CPU architecture, the performance of the N should be slightly faster compared to the old Celeron N dual core.

The Celeron N offers two additional cores and is therefore significantly faster. Therefore, the CPU is only suited for basic tasks like office suits, web browsing with simple multitasking. The chip can therefore be cooled passively in theory, but SKUs with fans are possible as well. It integrates four Willow Cove processor cores 8 threads thanks to HyperThreading. The maximum Turbo frequency is always 4. At the time of announcement, the iG7 is the fastest model of UP4 low power series.

I believe it was the Greek philosopher Steven Kommonsenses who wrote "Some people also like to confuse how games and cores work. Making statements like games will require 8 cores or something to that effect. Reactions: Sausagemeat , mbk34 and theruck.
